The Science Behind Theodent
Rennou™ is Theodent’s proprietary theobromine-based enamel-care technology. It combines theobromine, a naturally occurring compound found in cacao, with calcium and phosphate.

What Is Theobromine?
Theobromine is a naturally occurring compound found in cacao (Theobroma cacao) and is the key compound at the core of Theodent’s Rennou™ technology.
Published Research
Published research has investigated theobromine in relation to enamel remineralization, apatite crystal formation and dentinal tubule occlusion.
In an in vitro enamel remineralization study, theobromine produced comparable enamel remineralization to fluoride at a 71× lower molar concentration. This result refers specifically to the concentrations evaluated in the laboratory study. It does not mean that Theodent is 71× more effective than fluoride.
Laboratory research has also reported larger apatite crystallites in the presence of theobromine.
Published in situ research has investigated dentinal tubule occlusion using theobromine-containing toothpaste, a mechanism relevant to dentin hypersensitivity. Individual outcomes may vary.
